While adjectives only have one job (to modify nouns),
adverbs have three jobs. Adverbs can modify verbs, adjectives, or even other
adverbs. Most adverbs end in -ly, but some don't, such as well and fast. Adverbs
usually answer the following questions about what they are modifying:
·
In what way? (excitedly, hurriedly, fast, slowly, kindly, etc.)
·
To what degree? (extremely, very, quite, etc.)
·
When? (often, rarely, occasionally, etc.)
·
Where? (outside, inside, far, near, locally, upstairs, etc.)
